In 1953, the foundation was laid for the family business that is now VDL Groep (Van Der Leegte Groep) with the establishment of ‘Metaalindustrie en Constructiewerkplaats P. van der Leegte’.
The long-standing Eindhoven family business was founded by Pieter van der Leegte senior. The first customers were Philips, Pieter van der Leegte's former employer, and DAF Trucks. The work of the first five employees consisted of turning, milling, and drilling, along with stamping, welding, and soldering in series.
Currently, the activities of VDL Groep are divided into 4 divisions: suppliers, car assembly, buses, and end products.
VDL Seating Systems was established when former professional footballer Tommie van der Leegte (including PSV, FC Twente, Wolfsburg, Ado Den Haag, NAC, and RKC) had the idea to combine these qualities and develop stadium seats. It proved to be a golden combination; in recent years, we have added customers such as Basra Sports City in Iraq, Ajax Amsterdam, FC Twente, Vitesse, and RKC Waalwijk to our clientele portfolio.
Thanks to the various competencies of the VDL operating companies, VDL Seating Systems can manufacture entirely within the business group. As a result, the quality from design to installation can be assured.
