In 1953, the foundation of ‘Metaalindustrie en Constructiewerkplaats P. van der Leegte’ laid the groundwork for the family business that is now VDL Group (Van Der Leegte Group).

The Eindhoven-based family business was founded by Pieter van der Leegte senior. Its first clients were Philips, Pieter van der Leegte’s former employer, and DAF Trucks. The initial work of the first five employees included turning, milling, and drilling, along with stamping, welding, and soldering in series.

Today, the activities of VDL Group are divided into four divisions: suppliers, automotive assembly, buses, and end products.

VDL Seating Systems was established when former professional footballer Tommie van der Leegte (who played for PSV, FC Twente, Wolfsburg, ADO Den Haag, NAC, and RKC) came up with the idea to combine these capabilities to develop stadium seating. It proved to be a winning combination, and in recent years we have added clients such as Basra Sports City in Iraq, Ajax Amsterdam, FC Twente, Vitesse, and RKC Waalwijk to our portfolio.

Thanks to the diverse expertise of the VDL subsidiaries, VDL Seating Systems can produce entirely within the group. This ensures that quality is maintained from design through to installation.
